Running a supplier audit without getting on a plane

A remote audit protocol that catches most of what a site visit would, at roughly 4% of the cost.

Start with documents you can verify independently: business licence, export records, and two customer references you contact yourself rather than accept as testimonials.

Then run a live video walk with a fixed script: raw material store, production line, QC bench, finished goods, and the loading bay. Ask for the walk unscheduled the second time.

Finish with a paid third-party inspection on the first production run. A $350 inspection has repeatedly saved us five-figure rework bills.

Remote audits fail on one thing only: subcontracting. Ask directly, in writing, which processes leave the building — and price a surprise inspection into year one.
